Barnard’s Inn Hall

Conditions of Hire and Use of Barnard’s Inn Hall

The following conditions form part of the agreement between Gresham College and any external organisation hiring accommodation at Barnard’s Inn Hall. Failure to observe these conditions may lead the College to require that the hirer or the hirer’s guests leave College premises without refund of the hire charge.

If certain conditions are waived or additional conditions agreed they shall be contained in a written letter when the booking is confirmed.

A booking will be confirmed upon receipt of a £300 deposit. This amount will be deducted from the total hire cost but is not refundable in the event of cancellation. Cheques are payable to Gresham College.

Full payment must be received by Gresham College 10 days prior to the date of the hire.

A cancellation fee based on one-third of the total hire charge will be payable unless notification in writing is received 14 days prior to the booking.

The premises must be vacated by the agreed time. A penalty of 25% of the total hire charge may be incurred if events over-run.

Consumption of food and drink is only permitted if previously agreed. Hirers are not permitted to prepare their own food on the premises.  Catering must be arranged through Gresham College's official providers, Owen Brothers Catering Ltd (contact: john@owenbrotherscatering.co.uk).

Barnard’s Inn Hall is a listed building of historical importance. Users should take every care not to cause any damage to any part of the premises. Notices, posters, signposts or any other items may not be fixed anywhere inside or outside the building. If signage is required outside the building, this can usually be arranged by prior agreement with Gresham College’s Facilities Manager.

Re-arrangement of furniture is permitted but the furniture must be replaced to its original layout when users vacate the accommodation.  At the end of the event, and within the agreed period of the hire, the hirer shall remove all litter from the accommodation and ensure that Barnard's Inn Hall is left in a clean and tidy condition.

No charge for admission shall be made at the entrance to, or within, Barnard's Inn Hall.  The sale of intoxicants within Barnard's Inn Hall and its precincts is not permitted.

Users enter the premises at their own risk and agree not to make any claims against Gresham College in case of an accident. The College endeavours to take all reasonable steps to keep its premises safe for its staff and for visitors.

Users of Barnard’s Inn Hall are advised to check on the suitability of particular rooms for disabled access before making a booking.

Gresham College does not accept any responsibility for the theft of personal property or any goods and materials delivered to Barnard’s Inn Hall.

Hired audio-visual equipment should be treated with care. Users may ask the Facilities Manager for help should they be unfamiliar with any equipment provided by the College.

Hire of rooms does not entitle the users to describe themselves part of Gresham College; the name of the College may only be used for location purposes.

Gresham College reserves the right to offer alternatives to booked rooms should this prove necessary.

Hire of rooms does not entitle the users to make use of any other Gresham College facilities.

Gresham College is committed to equality of opportunity and to eliminating discrimination.  Those hiring or using the College’s premises for any purpose are required to adhere to these principles.

The College reserves the right to refuse room hire or access to any of its premises or facilities to particular individuals, groups or organisations.
