A consideration of two waves of British theatre between the 1970s and the 1990s: that of new writing and of classic revivals.
Under particular discussion in this lecture are the themes of political authority, and increasingly with the regulation of sexuality. During this period under consideration sexuality is increasingly being used as the site for examining political authority, and at the same time as there has been a growth of artistic conservatism that came out of the Thatcher government in the 80s and continued to have enormous impact on the development of theatre for the next decade.
