The subject of which drugs society should tolerate and which it should criminalise is a hot one in our culture. There are passionately expressed differences of opinion between the generations, with claim and counter-claim about the relative harmfulness of this or that substance. It is this atmosphere that makes it particularly difficult to look rationally at the subject. In this lecture we shall examine the current arguments and try to find new ways forward.
