Mr John C. Carrington


John C. Carrington is the Chair of the Gresham Council. He has almost forty years of experience at the leading edge of telecommunications. A pioneer in the development of international broadband telecommunications services in the early 1980's, he has also played a key role in the development of cellular communications in the UK and Europe. 

John founded Cellnet (now O2) in 1983 and Mercury PCN (now part of EE) in 1989. He played a major part in the adoption of the pan-European digital cellular standard, GSM. John was the founding CEO of BT Mobile in 1985. Over the past twenty years, he has become more involved with software creation and solutions deployment alongside numerous charitable activities. 

John is a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, a Liveryman of the Clockmakers' Company and a Fellow of the British Computer Society.
