Dr Giles Shilson
Dr Giles Shilson has a background in law, governance and senior administration. He was educated at St Paul's School and Balliol College, Oxford, where he studied Modern Languages, Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.
After a Doctorate of Philosophy and two years of further study at City University and the Inns of Court School of Law, he was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple and practised as a barrister until 2005, when he left the law to develop his business and charity interests. Between 2006 and 2011, he managed a design consultancy in London and was subsequently appointed Court Secretary of the Honourable Artillery Company. He now maintains a portfolio of Chief Executive and other senior appointments within the publishing, membership organisation and charity sectors.
Elected to the Court of Common Council in 2009 to represent the ward of Bread Street, his committee work focuses on Policy & Resources, Resource Allocation, Corporate Assets, Finance, Markets, Culture (in particular the Barbican Centre Board, of which he is currently Deputy Chairman) and Education (in particular the Board of Governors of the City of London School, of which he is a Past Chairman). A liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers, he is also a Priory Esquire of the Order of St John and sits on the London Priory Group of St John Ambulance.
