Christmas wasn’t invented by the Victorians! The Tudors enjoyed a twelve-day-long festival of feasting, carols, gifts, mince pies and merrymaking, over which the Lord of Misrule held sway. Ancient traditions survived remarkably unchanged in the Tudor age of tumultuous religious upheaval.
