Volunteer for Gresham College

Group of Gresham College Volunteers

Give your time and help Gresham College reach a wider audience

Whether a regular visitor to Barnard's Inn Hall, an online viewer, or someone who would just like to support our mission, anyone over the age of 18 can volunteer.

In its first year, our new volunteering project mobilised supporters to contribute 562 hours of hands‑on support, strengthening our community and helping us reach more people than ever before.

We are specifically looking for help with:

Telling your Gresham College story

We love to hear from our audience and learn how Gresham College lectures have made a difference to them. If our lectures have made an impact on you, write or record your story.

For overseas and further away audience members and supporters.

Front of House Duties

We generally have three lectures a week, although it can be more! We are specifically looking for volunteers will be responsible for supporting the Academic Team in front of house duties for one of these evening lectures.

This will involve:

  • welcoming attendees
  • checking them into the lecture
  • assisting them with their bookings
  • managing hall capacity
  • on occasion staying in our “overflow” room to ensure safety and to be a point of contact for our attendees

Volunteering as a British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreter

Do you have BSL interpreting qualifications? There are occasions where audience members would like an interpreter to attend a lecture to interpret for them.

We want to tell the world about the brilliant lectures we host across the year. We are looking for someone to help research clubs, societies and groups that may be interested in specific lectures. The ability to research online and update our contact list will be required. Full training provided.

Website assistance

• Writing short lecture descriptions where missing;
• Sourcing or assigning appropriate imagery for lecture pages;
• Sourcing or updating biographical data for past speakers.

“Volunteering at Gresham College has been really enriching. The whole organisation provided a very warm welcome, and I've been able to gain valuable new experience and see firsthand the care that goes into building a global community of supporters dedicated to free, lifelong learning."
