The South Sea Bubble of 1720

Dr Helen Paul

The London stock market boomed and crashed in 1720. The financial bubble is known to posterity as the South Sea Bubble.

In the three hundred years since, the bubble has been much misunderstood – this lecture separates fact from myth and aims to move beyond simplistic ideas of “gambling mania”.

Reservations are required for this lecture. In person reservations will be available closer to the event. Sign up to our email newsletter for updates: https://www.gresham.ac.uk/newsletter/
