The Politics of Abortion

Abortion is the classic example of how painful it is to handle moral issues in a plural culture. In this lecture, we shall explore the topic from a number of moral perspectives, looking at the problems intact moral communities face when they have to co-exist with approaches that are repugnant to them. However we deal with the issue, we must first recognise its complexity. Using the principle of theological improvisation, Professor Holloway will try to sketch in the possibility of an ecumenical ethical theory that would allow us to work within the given moral diversity of our culture, without submitting to ethical terrorism, on the one hand, or immobilism, on the other.
