Learning that is Truly Accessible to All: Eva Smith’s Story

Eva had an active, exciting life, with a full-time job and a calendar full of hobbies, including musical and cultural events she eagerly attended.
But during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the nationwide lockdown prevented Eva from attending public gatherings, she discovered Gresham College’s lectures. She found it wonderful that she could access them all online, whether to watch live or catch up with later.
Eva found them a lifeline when, three years ago, she had a stroke that left her partially paralysed and confined to her home. With her new care needs and lack of wheelchair transport, she can no longer attend those public events she had previously enjoyed. Gresham College lectures have been“life-enhancing” for her, helping to keep her mind active with the fascinating and thought-provoking learning they provide.
With the generosity of our supporters, we can continue to provide accessible learning for those like Eva and fulfil our core aim: to bring free education to all.
