Professor Laura Wright
Laura is Professor of the History of the English Language at the University of Cambridge. She previously held posts at the universities of Hertfordshire and Royal Holloway. She works on the history of the standardisation of English, focussing on the role of Anglo-Norman French and Medieval Latin; on the history of the London dialect, and on discovering the social connotations of words across space and time, as discussed in Laura Wright, The Social Life of Words: a Historical Approach, 2023, Oxford: Blackwells.
