Professor Quentin Skinner

Quentin Skinner is Emeritus Professor of the Humanities at Queen Mary University of London. He began his career as a Lecturer in History at Cambridge University (1965-76) and was a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton from 1976 to 1979. He then returned to Cambridge, where he was Professor of Political Science between 1979 and 1996 and Regius Professor of History between 1996 and 2008. He moved to Queen Mary in 2009 and retired in 2022. 

He is a Fellow of the British Academy and a foreign member of many other national academies. His scholarship has won him many awards, including the Wolfson History Prize and a Balzan Prize. He has received honorary degrees from numerous universities, including Chicago, Harvard and Oxford. His two-volume study, The Foundations of Modern Political Thought (1978), was listed by the Times Literary Supplement in 1996 as one of the hundred most influential books published since World War II. His most recent book is Liberty as independence, 2025.
