Professor Charles Knight OBE

Professor Charles Knight OBE trained at Cambridge and Oxford Universities and is a Consultant Cardiologist and Chief Executive of St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

From 2008 to 2011 he was Honorary Secretary of the British Cardiovascular Society, the professional body for UK Cardiologists and other healthcare workers with an interest in cardiovascular medicine. Professor Knight is past head of Cardiology training in London as Chair of the London Cardiology Specialty Training Committee and was a member of the Royal College of Physicians Specialty Advisory Committee.

He was Associate Editor of Heart journal, the UK’s leading cardiovascular journal. His research interests include acute coronary syndromes and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, in which he has published over 100 scientific papers. He is regularly invited to lecture at national and international meetings. In 2020 Professor Knight was seconded as Chief Executive of the NHS Nightingale Hospital London. In July 2020 he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London by invitation of the Lord Mayor in acknowledgment of the outstanding role that he had played in the pandemic.

In the Queen’s Birthday Honours October 2020 he received an OBE for services to the NHS and people with heart disease.
