This lecture series by acclaimed cultural historian Professor Joanna Bourke will interrogate the nature of evil and femininity.
A single Evil Woman will be the focus of each lecture, which will then reflect on other women and contexts. The concept of “evil” will be problematized. The focus is nineteenth through to twenty-first century history (i.e. even Eve will be explored in terms of her legacy of evil).
The lectures will draw on original materials, including contemporary accounts, literature, and film.
