Across more than thirteen billion years of cosmic history, interacting galaxies act out a glorious ballet. On these timescales, these vast systems interact and influence each other.
Using beautiful and dramatic images from space telescopes, and new results from the cartographic satellite Gaia, we see how the history of the Milky Way and its cousins has been shaped by often violent collisions with its neighbours.
