The international rule of law is essential for protecting the UK’s national interests. It is sometimes thought that adhering to international law holds back nations; but the opposite is the case. A country’s international reputation and ability to build lasting partnerships flows from respect for international law.
This lecture explores the importance of this, citing recent cases like the debate about the return of the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius, and the leasing back of islands like Diego Garcia.
