Dominic Broomfield-McHugh appointed as Visiting Professor of Film and Theatre Music
We are thrilled to welcome Dominic Broomfield-McHugh as the new Gresham Visiting Professor of Film and Theatre Music.
Dominic is also Professor of Music at the University of Sheffield where his work focuses on the American musical, on stage and screen.
His 2023-24 series will look at the impact and legacy of Twentieth-Century ‘divas’, including Shirley Bassey and Barbra Streisand. He will also deliver a seasonal lecture dissecting one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time.
Professor Broomfield-McHugh said: "It's an honour to contribute to Gresham's mission by bringing my passion for American and British popular music to a wider public, as well as to reflect on the role of music in shaping women's identity in the last century."
Professor Martin Elliott, Provost of Gresham College, said: “It is excellent to have Professor Broomfield-McHugh with us, broadening our artistic offering by diving into the cultural and musical impact of some of the most iconic singers of recent times.”
