Gresham College reveals first new style, online viewing lecture
We are delighted to announce the launch of the first of five enhanced lectures, featuring exciting graphics and other visual effects to help explain and illustrate the content.
The Ancient History of Computers and Code, by Professor Victoria Baines, looks at some of the earliest computers ever created ... long before electricity was discovered.
It is hoped that enhancing the visual narrative will add depth, context and insight, and appeal to new audiences.
Richard Smith OBE, the Executive Director of Gresham College, said: “I’m excited that we are trying new ways of helping our audience learn and look forward to hearing what people think about our new formats."
To create the new-look lectures, the skilled AV team at the College carefully select and add in additional elements to the hour-long talks much like a television documentary.
Four other lectures from the 2024 autumn term will receive a similar makeover:
- Magical Mystery Tour: The Invention of The Beatles by Professor Milton Mermikides
- Much Ado About Numbers: Shakespeare’s Mathematical Life and Times by Rob Eastaway
- Is Your Money Safe? Unveiling Hidden Conflicts in Finance by Professor Raghavendra Rau
- Black Holes and Bangs by Professor Chris Lintott
These will be uploaded across the course of the academic year.
