The government has announced a new training programme for people wanting to learn how AI tools can help their work. Among the panel of advisors is Daniel Susskind, the Mercers’ School Memorial Professor of Business at Gresham College.

As part of a £27 million scheme, every adult will be invited to sign up to free courses aimed at gaining practical AI skills they can use in their work. Sessions can take around 20 minutes and include the use of AI for tasks like drafting text, creating content and completing administrative tasks. Those who complete the programme will receive a virtual AI foundations badge.

The AI and the Future of Work Unit will research and monitor AI’s economic and labour market impacts to provide timely advice on when new policies should be implemented.

The panel will provide analysis and evidence on AI’s impact on the economy and labour market to provide timely advice on when new policies should be implemented across government. It draws upon experts from industry, academia, civil society and trade unions and among Joining Professor Susskind will be Diane Coyle, Abigail Gilbert (IFOW), Naomi Weir (CBI), and Mike Clancy (Prospect Union).

Professor Susskind said: “Understanding the impact of AI on work is one of the great challenges of our time. I am delighted to be joining this important panel, alongside such thoughtful and experienced fellow members,” he said.
