The Gresham Group in Oxted shared some helpful tips for anyone inspired to set up a similar gathering:

Tips for setting up a Gresham College lecture group:

  • Keep it small and manageable – around 11–12 members works well.
  • Foster respectful conversation – be a good listener and make space for everyone’s views.
  • Collaborate on the programme – let members suggest lectures to shape a varied and engaging schedule.
  • Encourage a mix of ages – bringing in younger members helps keep the group vibrant and sustainable.
  • Invite thoughtful minds – aim to include people who enjoy deep thinking and discussion.
  • Ensure reliable tech – a good internet connection and working equipment are essential.
  • Choose a comfortable venue – a warm, welcoming room makes all the difference.
  • Don’t forget the refreshments – tea, coffee and biscuits add to the social atmosphere.
