Tim Palmer

Timothy Palmer is Vice-Chair of the Gresham College Council, and a past Master of the Mercers' Company. He read Zoology at Balliol College, Oxford followed by three years as a graduate research assistant at Imperial College, London with a group studying insect population dynamics. A final graduate student year was spent in the Tsavo National Park, Kenya pursuing dung beetles. 

Since then he has farmed in Dorset, served for twelve years on East Dorset District Council and 16 years on the County Council, four of them as Leader. He was chairman of the County Councils' Network for 2006/10 and High Sheriff of Dorset for 2010/11, has served on the governing bodies of five schools and is currently Chairman at St Paul's Girls' School. He remains fond of beetles and is a trustee of the Dorset Wildlife Trust.
