Evelyn Cohen

Evelyn was a dedicated medical practitioner, her days filled with caring for patients, but she always harboured a deep curiosity for the world beyond her profession. 

In 2007, Evelyn, stumbled upon Gresham College’s lectures, finding them a treasure trove of wisdom and  insight., She became a regular attendee, often eagerly waiting in the queue at the Museum of London or  Barnard’s Inn Hall. 

Retirement brought Evelyn the freedom to explore her various interests, delving into history, philosophy  and the arts. Gresham College lectures became a cornerstone of her intellectual pursuits, each session a new chapter in her lifelong journey of learning. 

As the years passed, Evelyn witnessed the world change unexpectedly. The COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges, but also innovations. The lectures she cherished became available to live-stream online, allowing her to continue her quest for knowledge from the comfort of her home. At 97, mobility was a challenge, but technology bridged the gap, bringing the world to her doorstep. 

Evelyn marvelled at the seamless technology, as well as the lecturers’ insights and expertise. The Q&A sessions after the lectures were intriguing, fostering a sense of community and shared curiosity in both the online and in-person audiences. 

And so, Evelyn continued to explore, learn, and grow, proving that age was no barrier to the pursuit of knowledge and the thrill of discovery. Despite modest means, Evelyn’s spirit of generosity never waned. 

Her life was a testament to the power of curiosity, resilience, and the joy of lifelong learning. 

This story is a tribute to Evelyn’s journey and the impact of continuous learning.
