Three New Professors Join Gresham College

Professors Matt Jones, Helen Czerski and Daniel Susskind

We are delighted to announce that three new professors have been appointed ahead of the 2025-26 academic year:

  • Daniel Susskind is the new Mercers’ School Memorial Professor of Business
  • Helen Czerski is the new Frank Jackson Foundation Professor of the Environment
  • Matt Jones is the new IT Livery Company Professor of Information Technology

The trio will each deliver six lectures across each academic year, with their inaugural series’ beginning in September.

Notes from a Large Planet: A Citizen’s Guide to the Earth is the theme of Professor Czerski’s first series, exploring life on our planet. From the fundamental rules that make Earth habitable to the oceans, air, polar regions, and land, the lectures will offer a deeper understanding of the world around us.

In his first series, AI As Your Overlord: Assimilation, Acceptance or Resistance?, Professor Jones’ will explore the rise of artificial intelligence - beginning with the creation of a machine capable of defeating a Go grandmaster.  He will delve into the challenges and possibilities AI presents, blending computer science, psychology, sociology, and history.

Dr Susskind will also focus on the impact of AI technology, focussing on one of the great challenges of our time – the impact of AI on working environments and education. Can machines do more than make medical diagnoses and compose amusing jokes?

Full details of the lectures will be released at the end of July 2025.
