This lecture will look at how and why Christians in the seventeenth century first began seriously to wrestle with unbelief, whether troubled by feelings that God was absent, worries about religious variety or fear of damnation.
Revd John Bowker was the Gresham Professor of Divinty between 1992 and 1997. His former positions include a Dean and Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge and a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Lancaster. Upon his appointment to
