George Magnus

George Magnus

George Magnus is a Research  Associate at the China Centre, Oxford University, and at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, a Member of the China Foresight Forum at LSE IDEAS, and an advisory board member of the China Observatory, a non-partisan initiative at the Council on Geostrategy. 

He is the author of Red Flags: Why Xi’s China is in Jeopardy, and of two other thematic books, Uprising: will emerging markets shake or shape the world economy, and The Age of Ageing. He writes and presents regularly for leading media sources and TV and radio outlets.  

George was the Chief Economist, and then Senior Economic Adviser at UBS Investment Bank from 1995-2016. Previously he had worked at SG Warburg, Bank of America and Lloyds Bank. 

He had previously worked as the Chief Economist at SG Warburg (1987-1995), and before that in a senior capacity before ‘Big Bang’ at Laurie Milbank/Chase Securities, and before that, Bank of America in London and San Francisco.
