Part of the lecture series, Exploring the Brain.
This series of lectures will explore the extent to which current brain research may give insights into the mind. Parkinson’s Disease is a disorder of converting mental events into mechanical ones, whilst Alzheimer’s Disease is a disorder of the thought processes themselves. In both cases the problem appears to be with specific chemical systems in certain parts of the brain. It is this chemical aspect of the brain that gives flexibility and subtlety, not normally seen in machines such as computers.
