In this lecture I will describe the mathematics of machine learning and explain its applications to robotics. In particular I will show how the modern ideas of deep learning allow a robot to make sense of the world it exists in, including the ideas behind speech and face recognition.
Professor Robin Wilson is Emeritus Gresham Professor of Geometry, Emeritus Professor of Pure Mathematics at the Open University, and a former Fellow of Keble College, Oxford University.
Sir Christopher Zeeman was the Gresham Professor of Geometry between 1988 and 1994. He read Maths at Christ's College, Cambridge and then became a fellow of Gonville and Caius College. He had served with the Royal Air Force from 1943
